Wedding dress Fabrics and Decorations

In order to make your wedding dress truly yours on your special day, you might want make some changes to it. This could include changing some of the fabrics or adding decorations such as beadwork.

With so many different materials and shiny little baubles to choose from, it is really easy to lose track of what goes where, and end up with something that people need to wear sunglasses to look at.
There are also factors like the time of year and the weather conditions. No one wants to trudge down the aisle in the middle of a heat wave swathed from head to toe in chiffon and crepe.

Cost, unfortunately is usually an issue. You might love the softness and texture of a material, but if it is made from the hair shed by andalusian mountain goats once every 10 years and costs R1000 per cm2 it might not be feasible.

It’s also important to remember that the wedding dress fabric needs to be reasonably robust. You will be moving around a lot and constantly jumping in and out of your seat. So something that will not easily crease is a must. There will be lots of people taking photos and you want to look beautiful in every one of them!

Decorations can also be a lot of fun. Have a look at the decorations on the dress already, try to get your decorations to match up to those. If you’re having the dress made from scratch, remember to pick decorations that complement each other. There are few things more dreadful than a dress that has gone overboard on decorations that don’t match.

There are so many different ways of making your wedding dress memorable. Beadwork is currently a hot favourite; a beadwork design on the bodice of the dress is both elegant and contemporary. The other advantage of beadwork is that it doesn’t take too long to put in, so if you change your mind, your tailor can always take it out again with very little effort

Adding details to the wedding dress is also very pocket friendly, it allows you to buy a much plainer dress for less and then customize it to your liking, making it spectacular!

Remember to consider the context that the wedding dress will be worn in. If you’re having a small informal ceremony, you don’t want to have a 50m train that is longer than the church. Your guests also might not feel very happy about things if the theme is black tie and you shimmy down the aisle in a strapless quasi-bikini. It’s important to match the dress to the theme of the occasion.

All in all, finding the right decoration for your dress can be a lot of fun. Take your friends along and make a day of it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions of the shop assistants, that’s what they’re there for, besides, everyone wants to help with a wedding. This is your opportunity to really express yourself through your wedding dress and we recommend that you take full advantage of it.
